On a wreath of the colors Or and Azure, the Army National Guard crests of Oregon and Idaho in the order in which the states were admitted to the Union: OREGON: A demi-disc Gules charged with the setting sun with twelve light rays Or (the shoulder sleeve insignia of the 41st Division), behind a beaver sejant Proper. IDAHO: An elk's head caboshed Proper.

Shield
The shield is yellow (Or) for Cavalry. The fess wavy and the gliding snake represent the Snake River, in the valley of which the Regiment was located.
Crest
The crest are those of the Oregon and Idaho Army National Guard.
The coat of arms was originally approved for the 116th Cavalry Regiment on 18 November 1926. It was redesignated for the 183d Field Artillery Regiment on 18 November 1940. It was redesignated for the 183d Field Artillery Battalion on 13 September 1943. The insignia was redesignated for the 116th Armored Cavalry Regiment on 19 June 1950. It was amended to add the crest of the State of Nevada on 22 March 1971. It was amended to delete the crest of the State of Nevada and add the crest of the State of Oregon on 24 March 1975. It was redesignated for the 116th Cavalry Regiment effective 1 September 1989.
